- Before making any decisions—including financial decisions—discuss your situation with your BGRS service provider for CAFRD moves or with your orderly room staff for CBI Chapter 208.
- BGRS does not have the authority for benefit eligibility for CAFRD moves. When in doubt, consult the relocation directive and appropriate relocation assistance resources.
- This information will help you and your spouse or partner make informed choices. It does not cover all options that may be available to you as a CAF member or a military family member.
- Every member’s situation is unique. If there are exceptional reasons that prevent you from addressing your career concerns through regular channels such as time sensitivity, health, security, or financial concerns for you or your family, you can contact our office by telephone or in writing. In cases where compelling reasons exist, our office can ensure that all relevant parties know about your circumstances, and that the proper process is being followed to assist the appropriate authority in taking an informed decision.

Upon arrival at your destination
Contact your Base Furniture and Effects Office as soon as you get to your destination.
Inform them that you are available to receive your Household Goods and Effects (HG&E) delivery. Request your HG&E report from the Base Traffic Office.

Relocation claim
Talk to your BGRS service provider to find out how you make your claim using electronic fund transfers. For more information on this, review CANFORGEN 039/19 - CAF RP (Relocation Program) Service Delivery - Improvements Aps.
Note: All CANFORGENS are available on the Defence Team Intranet or through the CAF mobile application.

Your previous posting residence
If your previous residence remains unsold, you may be eligible for Temporary Dual Residence Assistance (TDRA). Article 8.2.07 of the Canadian Armed Forces Relocation Directive (CAFRD) describes your eligibility.
If you anticipate losing money when you sell your residence, the Home Equity Assistance (HEA) benefit may reimburse up to 80 per cent or a maximum of $30,000 of your loss. This is subject to Canada Revenue Agency taxation regulations. Learn more about this benefit at Article 8.2.13 of the CAFRD and discuss with your BGRS service provider.

Military life and important documentation
Military life events - important documents provides a list of key documents to review regularly and update when your circumstances change, such as those resulting from a new posting.
Complete your change of address for all important documentation and identification, including health insurance cards for yourself and every family member.
Share the Guide to Working with Military Kids with adults who support your children so that they can gain a better understanding of the unique challenges military kids face. This may include camp leaders, coaches, health care providers, youth group organizers, recreation workers, church leaders, early childhood educators, social workers, program coordinators, and professional therapists.
