After you apply

Waiting for a response on your application

We aim to make a decision on your application within 120 calendar days (less if you are eligible for priority processing).

What to expect after you have submitted your application:

  • Confirmation:
    • If you apply online, you'll receive a confirmation message that your application was submitted successfully
    • If you apply by paper, you'll receive a letter in the mail confirming that we've received your application
  • Follow-up: We may contact you or your medical professional for additional information
  • Decision: You'll receive a letter in the mail with a decision
    • If your application is approved, the letter will include your first payment date and monthly amount
    • If your application is denied, the letter will explain the reasons and indicate the steps to request a reconsideration

When it may take more than 120 days

The process may take longer than 120 days if:

  • You do not submit all required documents
  • We ask for more information, or ask you to see another doctor to evaluate your medical condition

Checking your application status

You can check your application status in two ways:

  • Online: Sign in to your MSCA and select the "View my status updates" link in the CPP section
  • By phone: Call us if it's been more than 120 days since you applied

Updating and correcting your application

Make sure your application is accurate. To correct information or update your direct deposit, mailing address or telephone number, use one of the following methods:

If you disagree with the decision

If you disagree with the decision about your application, you may ask to have the decision reconsidered. To do so, you must send your request for reconsideration in writing within 90 days of receiving your decision letter.
