Magazine — Aid to publishers

As part of the Government of Canada’s Comprehensive Expenditure Review, the funding allocation under the Canada Periodical Fund’s Aid to Publishers component will be refocused to solely support the creation of original Canadian editorial content, regardless of distribution format. This decision will be implemented on April 1, 2028. As a result, no changes to the total current Aid to Publishers component budget allocation are expected for the 2027-2028 funding cycle.

The Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF) is designed to provide eligible Canadian publishers of print magazines, print (non-daily) community newspapers and digital periodicals with the financial support they need to produce and distribute high-quality, Canadian editorial content for Canadian readers.

For print magazines, funding is granted based on a formula that takes the total eligible editorial expenditures incurred over a 12-month period as well as the number of eligible copies distributed during that period.
