2SLGBTQI+ Projects Fund 2024 Call for Proposals: About this call for proposals

We are no longer accepting applications for this call for proposals. The deadline for applications was April 10, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Pacific time.

1. About this call for proposals

Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) works to advance equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression through the inclusion of people of all genders, including women, in Canada’s economic, social and political life.

Context for the call for proposals

Although much progress has been made in Canada towards protecting rights and improving equality for 2SLGBTQI+ communities, stigma and discrimination persist, and drive long-standing and ongoing inequities for 2SLGBTQI+ people in Canada.

Under Canada's first federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan, funding has been made available to support work by 2SLGBTQI+ organizations to address barriers to 2SLGBTQI+ equality.

Objective of the call for proposals

The objective of this call for proposals is to advance the equality of 2SLGBTQI+ people. Community-informed projects will address needs and barriers to equality.

Here are some examples of projects that align with this call for proposals:

  • Improve Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ people's access to resources and supports adapted to their needs. Identify and address barriers to resources and supports.
  • Amplify trans voices in 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Address barriers to their access to leadership positions in the community.
  • Work with an industry association to help them identify and remove barriers to success for 2SLGBTQI+ people. Develop and put in place the means to retain and promote community members.
  • Work with the care sector to address discrimination against 2SLGBTQI+ people. Develop and test training toolkits to assist professionals to use a more inclusive approach to care.
  • Work with employers to end anti-trans discrimination. Support employers to develop and put in place policies and practices to ensure sustainable changes.
  • Develop and share tools that map the available services in a region for 2SLGBTQI+ people. Community members can use these tools to find adapted services in their region.
  • Work with religious leaders to address religious based discrimination.
  • Work with a technology company to stop the spread of hate online against 2SLGBTQI+ people. Work with the company to find ways to use their products or platforms to bring about change.
  • Gather and share resources for victims of conversion therapy. Use the resources to teach them about their rights. Guide them towards available services to assist them in their recovery.
  • Promote the history of the 2SLGBTQI+ movement, the people, and their challenges and successes. Gather and share their stories, works, and history.
