Directional Arrows

These technical specifications set out the requirements for directional arrows used in Government of Canada signage. Consult your Federal Identity Program coordinator for more information.

Requirements

  1. The design of directional arrows conforms to ISO Standard 7001.
  2. The directional arrow displays one of the eight orientations.
  3. The directional arrow is applied to signs containing a wayfinding message, or is combined with another symbol to indicate direction.
  4. When presented with text, the width of the directional arrow is sized in relation to the x-height of the accompanying text (generally 2 to 5 times the x-height value).
