Access to Services in Indigenous Languages

The Government of Canada is committed to advancing access to federal services in Indigenous languages in alignment with the Indigenous Languages Act.

What We Heard Report

In Fall 2024, Canadian Heritage launched an engagement strategy with federal departments and agencies to review and identify opportunities to expand federal services in Inuktut across Nunavut.

Between September 2024 and August 2025, Canadian Heritage held two Working Level Committee Meetings and 19 engagement sessions with federal departments and developed a ‘What We Heard’ report. These sessions aimed to assess current federal capacity, identify existing federal services in Inuktut in Nunavut, and highlight critical service gaps.
