After you apply

Waiting for a response on your application

If you filled in an application, you'll get a letter from us in the mail. It will tell you one of these things:

  • If we need more information from you
  • A decision on your application

Your decision letter will include

  • The amount you will receive each month
  • The date of your first payment
  • Any past payments that may be owed to you

Manage your application

Sign in to your My Service Canada Account (MSCA)

In MSCA you can:

  • Check your application status
  • Update your mailing address
  • Update your telephone number
  • Update your direct deposit/banking information

Update your information in MSCA

To be able to update your personal information in MSCA you need to:

  1. Call 1‑800‑277‑9914 or visit a Service Canada location to activate your notifications and alerts
    • You only need to do this once
  2. Sign in to MSCA
  3. On your OAS dashboard, select "Profile"
  4. Choose what information you want to update:

Mailing address

Choose “Manage address information”

  • Once your change is confirmed, your updated address will appear in the "Address information" section of your "Profile" page

Note: It is not possible to change the information for foreign addresses online. To change your foreign address, contact us to speak with one of our agents over the phone.

Direct deposit/banking information

Choose “Manage my payment destination”

  • Once your change is confirmed, your new banking information will show under “Payment details” on your Profile page.

Penalties for false, misleading, or omitted information

You could be fined if there is false, misleading, or omitted information on your OAS application. Interest is also charged on penalties and overpayments that are subject to a penalty.

If you disagree with the decision

If you disagree with the decision on your application, you may ask to have the decision reviewed. To do so, you must send your request for reconsideration in writing within 90 days of receiving your decision letter.
