The CRA is making tax filing easier
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) can help you get the benefit and credit payments you are eligible for. You need to file your taxes every year to get the payments you are entitled to.
Starting March 2027, 1 million eligible individuals will get an invitation in their CRA account to use a pre-filled return to file their taxes. By 2029, 5.5 million individuals will get an invitation to file their 2028 taxes.
If you are invited, you can use a pre-filled return to file your 2026 tax return. This new service is free and uses information the CRA already has on file to pre-fill a return for you, making it easier and quicker for you to file. You will be able to verify and update the information that has been pre-filled for you, and add any missing information before you accept and submit the return to the CRA.
You may be invited if you have:
- filed a tax return for 2025 by October 31, 2026
- a lower income and simple, non-taxable situation
- a CRA account
- your correspondence preference in your CRA account set to “electronic mail”
Sign in to your CRA account or register for one, update your personal information, and set your correspondence preference to electronic mail by October 31, 2026, so you don’t miss the chance to be invited.
