The contribution of drug overdose deaths to life expectancy change has rarely been quantified. Between 2000 and 2014, unintentional poisonings (mostly drug and alcohol overdoses) contributed a loss of 0.338 years in life expectancy at birth (LE0) for the non-Hispanic white population in the United States of America (USA), the greatest negative impact by cause of death.^{Footnote 4}
