How are non-polio enterovirus infections treated?
There is no specific treatment.
Mild symptoms can be treated with over-the-counter medications that provide relief from the pain of mouth sores, fever and aches. People with mild illness usually only need treatment for their symptoms and tend to recover completely.
In some rare cases, you may need to go to the hospital if you:
- have a weak immune system (reduced ability to fight disease)
- are a child with asthma who has severe trouble breathing
