Considerations
The three phases of medical release
Is this your first visit?
This is not official policy or instructions. If this is your first visit, review the considerations before proceeding through the phases.
Direct questions or concerns about your release to your chain of command, your CAF Nurse Case Manager, or your local CAF Transition Centre (CAF TC).
As you move through the three phases of your medical release, consider the following :
- Involve your family as early as possible in your Return to Duty (RTD) or transition process. Share your concerns, explore options together, and get information about possible benefits and services for CAF families.
- Consult the Military Benefits Browser to learn about your potential entitlement to benefits and services if you are ill, injured or transitioning out of the CAF.
- Contact Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) if you believe that your military service may have caused or aggravated an injury or illness. Create a My VAC Account to determine if you are entitled to VAC benefits and services while serving.
- Consult the VAC Benefits Navigator to determine your eligibility for VAC programs and services.
- If you are transitioning out of the CAF, consult the Digital Transition Centre, which helps you plan and complete your transition to post-service life.
- Locate your closest Transition Centre, where you and your family can get information, services, and support from military to civilian transition subject-matter experts.
- Contact SISIP Financial to reach a CAF LTD Manulife counsellor to discuss available benefits.
- Visit or contact the nearest CAF TC to review the services and resources that may be available to you during your recovery or transition.
- If you’re a member of the Primary Reserve, Canadian Rangers, or Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service (COATS), contact your commanding officer and local CAF TC as soon as possible to learn about your potential entitlement to Compensation for ill and injured Reservists.
