What to bring to the ceremony

You must bring these documents and identification (ID) to your ceremony:

• your ceremony invitation
• 1 of the following:
  • your permanent resident card (PR card), even if it’s expired (for adults and minors, even if the minor doesn’t attend the ceremony)
  • your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688)
• for adult applicants: 2 pieces of ID
  • At least 1 ID must have both your photo and signature on it.
    Examples of accepted ID for adults

    • PR card
      • If you use your PR card, the second ID must be issued by the Canadian federal government, or a provincial or territorial government.
    • original passport or other travel document
    • foreign ID
      • It must be government-issued.
      • If it’s not in English or French, you must provide a translation with an affidavit from the translator
    • health card
    • driver’s licence
    • age of majority card
    • Certificate of Indian Status (status card)
    • senior citizen’s card
    • document issued after January 1, 1994 by Quebec’s Registrar of Civil Status
• for minor applicants: 2 pieces of ID
  • The IDs don’t need to have photo and signature.
    Examples of accepted ID for minors

    • original passport or other travel document
    • PR card
      • If the minor uses a PR card, the second ID must be issued by the Canadian federal government, or a provincial or territorial government.
    • driver’s licence
    • Certificate of Indian Status (status card)
    • health card
    • school ID card
    • foreign ID
      • It must be government-issued.
      • If it’s not in English or French, you must provide a translation with an affidavit from the translator.
    • non-government ID
    • hospital or immunization record (if the minor is under school age)
    • any other ID issued by the Canadian federal government, or a provincial or territorial government
• for parents or guardians who applied for a minor: 1 piece of ID
  Examples of accepted ID for parents or guardians

  • PR card
  • original passport or other travel document
  • foreign ID
    • It must be government-issued.
    • If it’s not in English or French, you must provide a translation with an affidavit from the translator.
  • health card
  • driver’s licence
  • age of majority card
  • certificate of Indian Status card
  • senior citizen’s card
  • document issued after January 1, 1994 by Quebec’s Registrar of Civil Status
• Record of Landing (IMM 1000) if you
  • became a permanent resident before June 28, 2002 and
  • still have the document
    Keep your Record of Landing or Confirmation of Permanent Residence

    You may need the document later when you apply for benefits (for example, the old age security benefit).

• virtual ceremony only:
  • your virtual seat number (it’s on the first page of your invitation)
  • a pair of scissors to cut up your PR card at the start of the ceremony
  • (if applicable) a signed copy of the permission release and consent form
    • You may get the form in your invitation if we need your permission to publish photos or videos of the ceremony.
• in-person ceremony only:
  • a signed copy of the permission release and consent form
    • The form is in your invitation.
• optional:
  • a holy book of your choice, if you want to use it to swear the oath of citizenship
  • a water bottle for in-person ceremonies
  • a mobile phone or camera to take a picture
