How to get a police certificate - Guatemala

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of all the documents you need

  • Constancia de antecedentes policiales
  • Carencia de antecedentes penales

Police certificate and IRCC requirements

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:

  • permanent residence
  • citizenship
  • some temporary residence programs

Check your application package or instructions for details.

How to apply

Constancia de antecedentes policiales

Apply online (available only in Spanish and only in the Guatemalan territory at this time) through the Policía Nacional Civil.

If you can’t apply online

You must apply in person at the Sede Central y Comisarías de la Policía Nacional Civil (check Contact information for locations).

If you can’t apply online or in person

You can authorize a lawyer to act on your behalf. Your lawyer must submit your original identification documents. You can also call or email the issuing authority.

Carencia de antecedentes penales

Apply online or by using the OJMovil portal (available in Spanish only) through the Organismo Judicial (website and portal available in Guatemalan territory only at this time).

If you can’t apply online

You must apply in person at the Certificado de Antecedentes Policíacos (secretariat of criminal records) (check Contact information for locations).

If you can’t apply online or in person
