COW – Yazidis (Syria/Turkey) – May 28, 2026
- The Government of Canada has now welcomed more than 1,400 survivors of Daesh and their family members, including vulnerable Yazidi women and children.
- Many survivors of Daesh who came to Canada under a 2017 initiative had some immediate family members who were still in captivity or missing, which delayed family reunifications.
- Yazidi families in Canada continued to struggle with being separated from members of their families.
- This is why in December 2023 we implemented a new measure to help reunite Yazidis who are already in Canada with members of their family still overseas.
- We have reached the application limit for this measure and continue to process existing applications. Families are continuing to be reunited in Canada.
