72 Substances identified as being of low concern
These substances were identified for action under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). The final screening assessment incorporates results from the Science Approach Document: Ecological Risk Classification of Organic Substances and the Science Approach Document: Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC)-based Approach for Certain Substances.

Follow-up activities
While exposure to any of the 72 substances is not of concern at current levels, two substances (CAS RNs 111-96-6 and 112-49-2) have been identified as having potential health effect of concern. Therefore, there may be a concern if exposure levels were to increase. For this reason, the Government of Canada has applied the SNAc provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) to these two substances.

In August 2026, a notice was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I: Vol. 160, No. 35 – August 29, 2026, under section 71 of CEPA. This notice applies to one substance included in this substance grouping (CAS RN 3081-14-9). In June 2023, a notice was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I: Vol. 157, No. 25 - June 24, 2023, under section 71 of CEPA. This notice applies to three substances included in this substance grouping (CAS RNs 793-24-8, 27193-86-8, and 68784-26-9). Background
Combining the results from both approaches, 75 substances were identified to be of low concern for human health and ecological risk. One substance (CAS RN 118-96-7) was later found to be associated with an international classification for carcinogenicity based on empirical data with positive results, thereby excluding it from the TTC-based approach. This substance was assessed in the Final Screening Assessment for the Rapid Screening of Substances with Limited General Population Exposure.
Also, as a result of new information on uses and volumes submitted pursuant to a CEPA section 71 notice, two additional substances (CAS RNs 4979-32-2 and 94270-86-7) that were included in the draft of this screening assessment have been removed for further assessment due to potential human health concerns. These substances are being assessed as a part of the Benzotriazoles and Benzothiazoles Group.
