Minister LeBlanc and Chief Trade Negotiator update provincial and territorial Trade Ministers and Advisory Committee on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations on Canada-U.S. trade negotiations

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, and the Honourable Janice Charette, Canada’s Chief Trade Negotiator to the United States, met with provincial and territorial ministers responsible for Trade and members of the Advisory Committee on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations to discuss the latest developments in Canada-U.S. trade negotiations. They both attended the meetings virtually from Washington, D.C.

The meetings provided an opportunity for Minister LeBlanc and Mme Charette to share updates on recent discussions in Washington, D.C., including their engagements with United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer this week. They discussed Canada’s priorities in the ongoing negotiations, including addressing existing sectoral tariffs and avoiding the implementation of Section 338 tariffs, while continuing to advance Canada’s interests in the broader Canada-U.S. trade relationship.

The meeting with provincial and territorial Trade Ministers marked the second time in two weeks that Minister LeBlanc has engaged his provincial and territorial counterparts, reflecting the Government of Canada’s ongoing commitment to keeping provinces and territories closely informed and engaged as negotiations with the United States continue.

Members of the Advisory Committee shared their perspectives on the evolving Canada-U.S. trade environment and the broader implications for the Canadian economy.

Minister LeBlanc and Mme Charette reiterated the importance of a unified, Team Canada approach and thanked provinces and territories, businesses, industry, labour and other stakeholders for their continued collaboration in defending the interests of Canadian workers, farmers, businesses and families.
