The code of practice to reduce fugitive emissions of total particulate matter and volatile organic compounds from the iron, steel and ilmenite sector has been in effect since May 28, 2016.

Objective

This code of practice recommends best practices to control and limit fugitive air emissions of total particulate matter (TPM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from facilities in the iron, steel and ilmenite sectors.

Target audience

The code of practice applies to the iron, steel and ilmenite sector, which is subdivided into three subsectors:

  • integrated mills
  • mini-mills
  • ilmenite smelting facilities

Adopting the code of practice

If the code of practice applies to your facility, you are encouraged to:

  • implement best practices to prevent or limit emissions of TPM and VOCs  to the environment
  • monitor and control TPM and VOC emissions from your facility on a regular basis
