24.12.1 Introduction

The types of special benefits accessible to all entitled claimants, regardless of whether they are requesting benefits under EI, EI fishing or EI special benefits for the self-employed are: sickness, maternity, parental, compassionate care and family caregiver benefits. Self-employed residents of Québec are only eligible for EI sickness, compassionate care and family caregiver benefits, given that maternity and parental benefits are offered to them through the Québec Parental Insurance Plan.
