  1. The temporary suspension of the use of laser-based marksmanship and biathlon simulator platforms directed at reference A is rescinded immediately. Regional Cadet Support Units (RCSUs) may now approve the use of laser-based simulators in support of the marksmanship and biathlon programs.
  2. In order to ensure safety and avoid injury, laser-based simulators will be treated the same as loaded air rifles and are hereby subject to the same safety rules and regulations that currently apply during the conduct of air rifle range activities. Training with laser-based simulators will be supervised by a qualified air-rifle Range Safety Officer (RSO)
  3. During laser-based simulator training, the RSO must ensure that:
    1. muzzle control is maintained at all times;
    2. the laser-based simulators are always pointed in a safe direction;
    3. participants follow established weapons handling drills;
    4. participants avoid aiming the laser at snow or other specular reflective surfaces; and
    5. participants follow the safety precautions provided by the manufacturer.
  4. Further direction and guidance regarding the procurement and safe use of laser-based marksmanship and biathlon simulators will be provided in updated policy replacing references B and C in due course. Corps/squadrons are to refrain from purchasing any new laser-based simulators until appropriate procurement direction and guidance is issued by the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers (CJCR) Headquarters.
  5. Questions can be directed to CJCR J5 at J5PlansO-J5Oplans@forces.gc.ca.
