The relocation process - Purchase closing date or rental agreement start date and travel

Between your Change of Strength (COS) date and your New Report for Duty (RFD) date

As per CFIRP - article 5.04, you are entitled up to five (5) days to pack, load, clean, unload and unpack.

You should begin travel the day after your clean day.

Review CFIRP - chapter 6 for travel because the days are limited based on distance regardless of when you begin your travel.

Arrival at destination

Once you arrive at your destination:

  • Check into hotel
  • Contact your landlord or lawyer for keys
  • Contact the local traffic section on the first business day after arrival, or on your expected arrival date even if you are delayed
  • Once your household goods and effects (HG&E) are delivered to your new residence, you may remain in the hotel for two (2) additional days to unload and unpack, as per CFIRP - article 5.04

The above information is related to the most frequently used benefits. Please refer to the CFIRP directive for a full list of entitlements and seek clarification from your BGRS agent.
