Conduct Compass: new professional conduct scenarios website offers a sea of learning opportunities

January 23, 2024 - Defence Stories

Chief Professional Conduct and Culture (CPCC) have added new professional conduct-scenario-based learning vignettes to a revamped Professional conduct website.

What’s new?

This update includes:

  • Over 60 new scenarios: A variety of new scenarios on topics ranging from hateful conduct, racism, sexual misconduct, harassment, sexual orientation, abuse of power, and more.
  • Filter options: Filter between misconduct types, ethical principles, ethical values, cultural themes, and Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) themes to easily find the type of learning you’re looking for. These new filters cover all types of misconduct and all GBA Plus intersectional ties, and more.
  • Consolidation of resources: The new webpage consolidates existing resources from three different webpages, bringing together a one-stop-shop for all professional conduct scenario learning.

What does this mean for Defence Team members?

Professional conduct scenarios present an opportunity to discuss and learn about our ethical principles and values that are the foundation of our organization’s culture. Through these scenarios, members will explore how Defence ethics affect our conduct, collective practices, and mindsets. The aim is to help clarify expected behaviours of Defence Team members, spark reflection, and enable respectful dialogue. Each scenario includes a specific vignette, a facilitator’s guide, and facilitation questions to guide a discussion.

In addition to these new updates, the updated website directly supports the implementation of the Culture Evolution Strategy by including scenarios related to cultural themes included in the strategy. Furthermore, it aligns the training and education with Recommendations #1, #4, #10, and #15 of the Deputy Ministers’ Task Team on Values and Ethics Report to the Clerk of the Privy Council, which encourage dialogue, training, internal communication on values and ethics within departments and agencies across the Government of Canada.

Future updates and support

As the functional authority on organizational values and ethics, CPCC will continue to regularly update and evolve the website with new scenarios that reflect current societal and DND/CAF-specific dilemmas and challenges. Contact CPCCTraining-EntrainementCCPC@forces.gc.ca if there are scenarios you would like to see added or if you have questions about the content.
