Member and Family Assistance services

The Member and Family Assistance services is a 24 hour, 7 days a week bilingual telephone and face to face counselling service that is voluntary, confidential, and available to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families who have personal concerns that affect their well-being and/or work performance.

Eligibility details

All Regular Force members, Reserve Class Members, Cadets, Rangers and their families can use this service to discuss a variety of concerns including:

  • marital and family
  • interpersonal relations
  • personal and emotional
  • stress and burn-out
  • work-related, including harassment and sexual assault
  • alcohol, drugs and prescription drugs
  • any other concern that affects or could affect your personal well-being

What you need to know before you start

This is a short-term problem-solving service. Often only a few sessions are required to resolve the problem. If long-term help or a more specialized service is needed, a referral to an appropriate professional resource can be made.

How to access the services

There are two ways to contact the CFMAP to get a referral to a mental health professional:

  • By phone at 1-800-268-7708 (TTY: 1-800-567-5803 for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing), 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • By online chat at Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Chat using any device with an internet connection (password: canada), available Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time), excluding statutory holidays

Note: The Chat Service is only for making an appointment with a mental health professional, not for immediate counselling. For immediate support, call the Crisis and Referral Centre at 1-800-268-7708 (TTY: 1-800-567-5803 for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing).
