About the Commission

The Government of Canada is embracing its international roles and responsibilities as a world leader in promoting and advancing gender equality, and the full realization of human rights.

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, a commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, is the principal global policy-making body dedicated to gender equality and the advancement of women.

Canada has participated in the UNCSW since its creation in 1947. Women and Gender Equality Canada, in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada, leads preparations for the annual meeting.
