Gender Results Framework
The Government of Canada has demonstrated its commitment to advancing gender equality through significant investments in key programs, policies and initiatives. While Canada is a leader in many facets of gender equality, there is still work left to do.
Introduced in Budget 2018, the Gender Results Framework (GRF) represents the Government of Canada’s vision for gender equality, highlighting the key issues that matter most. It is a whole-of government tool designed to:
- Track how Canada is currently performing
- Define what is needed to achieve greater equality
- Determine how progress will be measured going forward
Under this framework, the federal government has identified six key areas where change is required to advance gender equality. Explore these areas to find out more about our goals and how we are getting there.

The Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Statistics hub has been launched by Statistics Canada, which tracks, in part, the Government of Canada’s progress on the Gender Results Framework indicators. These indicators were developed in collaboration with Statistics Canada, Status of Women Canada (now the Department for Women and Gender Equality), the Department of Finance, Global Affairs Canada and others, and are designed to provide progress on key goals and objectives in the framework. Many of the indicators align with other international frameworks, such as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and, whenever possible, will, in time, be available by intersecting identity factors such as disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, Indigenous identity, immigrant status and visible minority status. A technical guide is currently being developed that will provide readers with information regarding the significance of each indicator, the data source, and computational methods.
The United Nations' 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) present Canada, and the world, with a framework for creating more sustainable and inclusive societies. The GRF’s gender equality goals directly contribute to Canada’s advancement of SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
