Elimination of the British Columbia Medical Services Plan premiums

This notice is to inform British Columbia (BC) residents who work for the federal public service that as of , the province of BC is eliminating the Medical Services Plan (MSP) premiums. As a result, the Government of Canada, will no longer collect and remit regular monthly MSP premiums on your behalf. Consequently you will not see these deductions on your Government of Canada pension and pay statements.
The elimination of MSP premiums does not impact your medical coverage with your province. The Government of Canada will be reviewing all existing accounts in 2020 before closing its group account with Health Insurance BC (HIBC). Once the group account is closed, HIBC will set up an individual self-administered account for you. HIBC will then send you a letter to notify you that your self-administered account has been created and the information they have on file for you and your dependants.
Changing personal information
Until your self-administered account is set up, if you need to change your personal information, such as your mailing address, or report changes to your family situation, complete and submit BC form HLTH 170 (PDF, 606 KB) to your Pension or Pay Centre.
Once HIBC notifies you that your self-administered account has been established, you will be responsible to inform them directly of any changes to your account information.Review of accounts
The Government of Canada and the province of BC will be reviewing all existing accounts in 2020 to determine if there are any premiums owed or overpaid. More information will be posted on Canada.ca/pension-benefits once this review is complete.
