Revised Student Rates of Pay for 2012 and 2013

Date:

To: Heads of Human Resources, Directors/Chiefs of Labour Relations and Compensation

The Secretary of the Treasury Board has approved new rates of pay effective January 1, 2012 for all students hired under Treasury Board Student Employment Programs. The new rates for 2012 reflect a 1.5 % increase on the 2011 rates and a subsequent 1.5% increase on the 2012 rates for 2013. Additionally, step 1 is being removed from the rates of pay for secondary school students to ensure starting rates of pay for secondary students are competitive.

The pay grid for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Inshore Rescue Boat has been removed from the "Departmental Program" section as it is no longer a departmental program under the Federal Student Work Experience Program. The department may choose to administer rates of pay for the Inshore Rescue Boat program as they have in the past, pursuant to the departmental authority in the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Students.

The new rates of pay will be available shortly on the TBS Web site: Rates of Pay - Policies and Guidelines.
