Government of Canada IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples – Alternative Educational Requirements

The IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples is a Government of Canada initiative specifically aimed at addressing employment gaps for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in the IT field.

All successful graduates are issued a digital certificate at the completion of the program.

The purpose of this bulletin is to confirm that the successful completion of the Government of Canada IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples fulfills the alternative educational requirement of the IT minimum Qualification Standard.

As such, successful graduates are deemed to meet the combination of education, training and/or experience.

File documentation should include the official digital certificate, duly signed.

Application

Hiring managers and staffing advisors are expected to comply with the information and direction contained in this bulletin to ensure they take advantage of this program to increase support for an inclusive and representative digital workforce that benefits from the talents of Indigenous Peoples.

They need to include the alternative to the IT qualification standard in the statement of merit criteria so that candidates who graduate from this program can be accepted as meeting the IT minimum education requirements. 

This bulletin applies to departments and agencies in the core public administration and is effective February 9, 2023.
