UN climate change conference

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an annual meeting of the parties that are part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This annual climate conference coordinates international efforts to address climate change and reviews the UNFCCC’s progress and implementation.

At COP21 in 2015, the historic Paris Agreement was adopted when parties committed to work together to fight climate change. Its rapid and effective implementation is key to limiting temperature increase and seizing the economic opportunities offered by the transition to a clean tech future.

Since then, negotiations have continued to establish consistent and transparent rules for implementing Paris Agreement commitments.

Canada is a leader in international climate action and COP provides a forum for the Government of Canada to continue demonstrating progress on many initiatives, including, for example, phasing out coal, driving zero plastic waste, protecting more of nature and advancing innovative finance for coastal resilience.
