If you receive a CPP/EI ruling

If you received a Canada Pension Plan and employment insurance (CPP/EI) ruling, it is because a ruling was requested by:

  • A payer
  • A worker
  • Service Canada, for the administration of the EI program
  • The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), for the administration of some of its programs

A CPP/EI ruling is an official decision made by an authorized officer of the CRA. The ruling confirms whether a worker is an employee or is self-employed, and whether the worker's employment is pensionable, insurable, or both.
