New: Email notifications for SIN updates on a business account
Beginning October 19th, the CRA will send an email notification to the email address associated with your T1 personal income tax account when your social insurance number (SIN) is added to or updated on a business account. This additional notification will help protect your personal and business account information.
Which email address will receive the notification
The notification will be sent to the email address on file in your T1 personal income tax account.
When you will receive a notification
You will receive a notification if you have an email address in your T1 personal income tax account and:
- your SIN is added as a new owner on a business account
- your SIN information is updated on a business account
- your SIN is added to an existing owner record on a business account
What you need to do if you want to receive these notifications
- Make sure you have an email address on file in your T1 personal income tax account
- Keep your email address up to date
How to add or update your email address
- Sign in to your CRA account
- On the Welcome page, select your Individual account to access My Account
- From the left navigation menu, select Notification preferences under Correspondence
- Add or update the email address on file in your T1 personal income tax account
Why the CRA is making this change
This change helps keep you informed when your SIN is added or updated on a business account. It may also help you identify unauthorized activity involving your SIN.
