Ways to find an existing business number

You need to provide your existing business number (BN) if you are adding CRA program accounts using Business Registration Online (BRO).

You should have received a BN if you registered with the CRA, incorporated federally, or if you registered or incorporated with certain provinces. A BN may have also been created for your business if you started a registration with BRO but your session timed out or ended unexpectedly.

Try the options below to help you find your BN.

  1. Check your records

The easiest way to find your BN is to look through your own records:

    • Letters or notices you received for your business
    • Confirmation details you may have saved or printed at the end of a registration session (for example, BRO session with the CRA)
  2. Sign in to your account

If you already added My Business Account to your CRA account, you can find your BN on the Welcome page when you sign in to your CRA account.

If you registered through your province or territory, you may also be able to find your BN by signing in to your provincial or territorial online account or portal.

  3. Check online business registries

You can search for your BN using online business registries, including the following:

    Corporations Canada

    For federally incorporated businesses.

    Corporations Canada

    Ontario Business Registry (OBR)

For Ontario businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Information may be available 2 business days after registration.

Fees may apply for certain services.

    Ontario Business Registry (OBR)

    Canada's Business Registries

For federal corporations, and corporations and limited partnerships in certain provinces.

  4. Contact the CRA

If you still can't find your BN, you need to speak to a CRA agent to resolve any issues or complete your registration.

    For Canadian residents

When you call, you may need to provide information you entered during your registration to ensure it matches what the CRA has on file.
