Introducing the new SR&ED pre-claim approval process

What if you could know, before you invest time, effort, and money, whether your research and development project will qualify for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentives? That is exactly what the SR&ED program’s new pre-claim approval process is designed to do!

This optional process helps eligible businesses find out if their projects qualify for SR&ED tax incentives, before they begin work or incur any costs. Through a simple application submitted in My Business Account, your business can receive a pre-claim approval determination from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) within eight weeks, allowing you to plan your SR&ED work with greater certainty and confidence.

If you would like to learn more, we invite you to register for an upcoming pre-claim approval webinar or visit the pre-claim approval web page.

Business Registration Online is now only available through your CRA account

As of July 14, 2026, you must sign in to your CRA account to access Business Registration Online (BRO). Once signed in, you can register for a business number (BN) or CRA program accounts, such as GST/HST.

This change enhances security, better protects your information, and makes the service more reliable and easier to use.

For more information on registering for a BN and CRA program accounts, refer to: Business Registration Online (BRO)

Get faster access to your business account online

Accessing My Business Account is easier than ever. To securely and quickly manage your business information and use CRA online services, link your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to your Business Number (BN) and add your BN to your CRA account, all without needing to contact the CRA.

You can link your SIN to your BN online using information from an assessed GST/HST return or T2 Corporation Income Tax Return. If your BN was registered within the last 28 days, you can also link your SIN online without having filed a return.

For more information, refer to How to access My Business Account
