Canada Research Coordinating Committee Announces New Chair

News release

Dr. Michael J. Strong, President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, assumes the role of Chair

Ottawa (January 30, 2020)–Michael Strong, president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, assumes the role of chair of the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC).

The CRCC is chaired by one of the presidents of the three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. The role rotates on an annual basis, as per its terms of reference.

The Committee would like to thank the outgoing chair, Ted Hewitt, president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, who provided essential leadership in launching the CRCC and successfully guided its efforts on key federal research priorities. The Committee looks forward to advancing these priorities in the coming year with the new chair, Michael Strong.

Background

The CRCC plays an important role in enhancing, through greater harmonization and coordination, Canada's federal science funding system to better meet the current and future needs of the country's scientists, scholars and students.

CRCC members comprise executive heads from the Canada Foundation for Innovation; the Canadian Institutes of Health Research; Health Canada; Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada; the National Research Council; the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council; the Office of the Chief Science Advisor; and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
