As of April 1, 2026, the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) will no longer offer standards development or conformity assessment services.

Organizations can continue to access CGSB standards at no cost through our catalogue.

Standard identification

Several elements are included in the numerical designation of a standard. For instance, the designation numbers: CAN/CGSB-12.2-Withdrawal November 2021 contain the following elements:

CAN/CGSB—CGSB National Standard of Canada
12—Subject area
2—Individual standard number
November 2021 Year of Withdrawal of the final edition

Some standards published before January 1, 1992 will have an "M" before the year of the latest edition. This indicates that the standard was written using metric (SI) units. Documents published after January 1, 1992 do not include the "M" as they all use metric units.
