Change in employment tenure defined
A change in employment tenure happens when there is a change in your employment type. Some of the more common changes in employment tenure are:
- casual to term
- term to indeterminate
Impact on pay
A change in employment tenure may affect your rate of pay. It may also affect your net pay. A change in your net pay will occur as a result of becoming eligible to participate in various mandatory plans or benefits, which may include:
- Public Service Pension Plan
- Supplementary Death Benefit Plan
- Disability Insurance Plan (or long-term disability plan)
- a union (dues deductions)
- the bilingualism bonus, if eligible
Notifying the Pay Centre
As part of the staffing process, your departmental human resources team will give you a letter of offer that reflects the change in your employment tenure. They will also provide the Pay Centre with the required information.
Eligibility for benefits, allowances, and insurances
Once the Pay Centre receives notification of your change in employment tenure, you will get a letter detailing its effects on your pay, leave, insurances and other benefits.
