About organization security screening

Is your organization bidding on a Government of Canada or foreign government solicitation with security requirements? Whether a single-person consulting firm or a large corporation, your organization must be security screened through Public Services and Procurement Canada's Contract Security Program (CSP).

Eligible organizations

The CSP provides security screening services to eligible organizations bidding or working on government contracts with security requirements.

These organizations must meet at least 1 of the following criteria:

  • have responded to a solicitation that will result in a federal contract with security requirements
  • be awarded a contract with security requirements
  • be awarded a subcontract with security requirements
  • have signed or will sign a lease with security requirements
  • be underrepresented footnote 1
  • be involved in a multinational program
  • be involved in special activities, meetings or projects, sponsored by foreign governments or organizations (for example, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization)

To be eligible for a security screening, organizations must also be formed or incorporated in Canada, physically located and registered to do business in Canada. These include:

  • Canadian organizations that are legal entities such as
    • corporations
    • partnerships
    • sole proprietors who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • Canadian public institutions (on a case-by-case basis only)

Different steps of the security screening process

  1. Organization getting sponsored for security screening
  2. Confirmation of the legitimacy and eligibility of the organization
  3. Security screening and appointment of a company security officer
  4. Security screening of 1 or more key senior officials, as required
