Project description
The project will replace and improve the existing Canadian Armed Forces’ heavy tow trucks, armoured cabs and associated recovery equipment. The capability will enable modern technology to effectively:
- recover newer and heavier armoured and logistics vehicles that cannot be recovered by the current fleet
- safely lift or right a rollover vehicle
- handle moving large ISO containers
Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy applies to the ERC Acquisition and In-Service Support contracts, to leverage economic benefits for the Canadian defence industry.
Current status
On November 7, 2024, the Government of Canada awarded two competitive contracts to Rheinmetall Canada Inc., for the acquisition of Enhanced Recovery Capability (ERC) vehicles, equipment and in-service support (ISS).
Procurement progress and engagement
The contracts were awarded through an open and transparent competitive process.
2020 to 2024
- The request for proposals (RFP) was shared with qualified suppliers on November 24, 2022, and closed on September 20, 2023
- Draft RFP was released in phases to qualified suppliers between October 2020 and March 2021
- On January 10, 2020, a list of qualified suppliers was published
2017 to 2019
- On August 23, 2019, an Invitation to Qualify was released
- Industry days and one-on-one sessions were also held to develop a shared understanding with industry about the project
- Industry engagement, as part of the competitive process, began with the publication of Letters of Interest in April 2017 and March 2019 to seek industry feedback on the project
