Appointment Framework

Overview

Under the Public Service Employment Act, the Public Service Commission has the authority to make appointments to and within the public service, and has delegated many of its appointment authorities to deputy heads.

The Public Service Commission's Appointment Framework guides deputy heads in building their own staffing systems adapted to their needs and in ensuring that they respect legislative and policy requirements.

The Appointment Policy and ADAI should be read in the context of the Public Service Employment Act, the Public Service Employment Regulations, and any applicable exclusion approval orders and regulations. These instruments exclude some appointments from the application of all or part of the Public Service Employment Act and from the application of some or all of the Appointment Framework.

For specific information and assistance, contact your designated Staffing Support Advisor or visit the GCPedia page (accessible only on the Government of Canada network).

Effective April 1st, 2016:

For reference only: these instruments were archived on April 1, 2016
