LHHR 16-01: 2016 Elections: Political Activities of Employees

2016-03-03

Note: The following message was sent to deputy heads on March 3, 2016.

In 2016, various elections will be held across Canada at the provincial and municipal levels. In view of these upcoming elections, I am providing you with the attached communiqué to share with your employees. It explains their legal rights and responsibilities under the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) related to political activities and provides them with guidance in making informed decisions regarding their participation in political activities.

As a deputy head, the only political activity permitted to you by the PSEA is voting in federal, provincial, territorial and municipal elections.

Should you or your Designated Political Activities Representative require additional information or assistance with your communications efforts, please contact Natalie Jones, Director General, Political Activities and Non-Partisanship Directorate, at 819-420-6453.

Your leadership is essential in ensuring a professional and non-partisan public service. Thank you for your ongoing collaboration.

Christine Donoghue
