CTOSS monitors adverse events related to transplantation of cells, tissues, and organs in Canada.
2011: The system started in 2011. Currently, it only covers tissue transplants. The project progress report contains a detailed methodology of surveillance.
30% of tissues transplanted in Canada are monitored through four participating provinces in CTOSS.
68,955 tissues were transplanted during 2011 to 2021.
18,053 tissues were transplanted during 2020 to 2021.
38 transplantation adverse events (TAEsFootnote *) were reported during 2011 to 2021.
12 TAEs were reported during 2020 to 2021. The incidence rate was 0.66 TAEs per 1,000 grafts.

Conclusion
Despite an increased number of tissues transplanted in 2020-2021, incidence rates of TAEs in Canada remain low.
