- An estimated 10,900 new hepatitis C infections occurred
- Every hour, at least 1 person was infected with hepatitis C in Canada
In 2017, an estimated 317,100 people in Canada ever had hepatitis CFootnote 1.
- Adults born between 1955 and 1964 made up almost one-third of people who ever had hepatitis C
- More than 6 out of 10 people who ever had hepatitis C were men
- Almost half of those who ever had Hepatitis C were people who injected drugs
In 2017, an estimated 194,500 Canadians were living with chronic hepatitis CFootnote 2.
This represents 61% of people who ever had hepatitis C.
- Recent studies show that among individuals who test positive for ever having hepatitis C, between 70-85% go on to be tested for chronic hepatitis C and can benefit from treatment.
