The risk for most travellers is low. Your risk increases if you visit rural areas in places where Chagas disease is found, such as:
- Mexico
- Central America
- South America
Your risk will also be higher if you sleep:

- in poorly-built houses with:
- cracked walls
- mud walls
- thatched roofs
