Consultation: Guidelines for the economic evaluation of vaccination programs in Canada

Following its mandate expansion to include economic analyses, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) was seeking stakeholder input into the development phase of the Economics Guidelines. With the data obtained through this consultation process, the Economics Guidelines will be adapted to better support the work of NACI and its stakeholders.

Who was the focus of this consultation

We did engage with:

• Provincial and territorial stakeholders
• Other stakeholders, both within and outside of Canada; these include (but are not limited to) those in academia, the research community, public health organizations, immunization-related organizations, government, Indigenous leaders, industry, health technology assessment (HTA) agencies, National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs), industry, as well as the general Canadian public with an interest in vaccination programs

Key questions discussed

The purpose of this public engagement project was to obtain stakeholder input on the NACI Economic Guidelines.

Your ideas and inputs were sought around three (3) main themes/topics:

• Determining if the guidelines are clearly written for researchers conducting economic evaluations and for policy-makers using the generated results
• Determining what potential challenges there are to implementing the guidelines
• Identifying any information gaps in the guidelines

Your feedback did help inform the updates to the guidelines. No separate report will be issued. The input gathered through this process will be used to better support the work of NACI and its stakeholders.
