Intake period
The intake period for the Prairie Performing Arts Initiative is now closed. Applications received and acknowledged by PrairiesCan prior to the intake period closing will be evaluated subject to remaining funding.
All projects must be completed by March 31, 2027.
5. How projects are assessed
Projects are assessed based on the information provided by applicants. Although PrairiesCan may engage applicants directly on outstanding questions or issues, applicants are advised to submit a complete and thorough invitation for an application.

How we assess your proposal
PPAI is a competitive process. Expressions of Interest that demonstrate the highest merit and strongest alignment with the objectives of the initiative, PrairiesCan’s priorities, and significant economic benefit are invited to complete a full application.
Assessment criteria
Complete applications are reviewed and assessed based on multiple criteria, including:
- ability to achieve PPAI objectives;
- alignment with one or more of the program activities;
- economic benefits for the organization and/or the sector;
- project viability;
- management capability;
- financial capacity; and
- ability to address a need, sector demand, and/or opportunity.
In addition to the quality of your application, PrairiesCan reserves the right to base funding decisions on the geographic breadth, representation, and diversity of its projects.
Applicants will also be assessed for their compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements/permit requirements.

Expected results
Your proposal should help us strengthen the performing arts sector in the Prairies. To contribute to this goal, project outcomes will include:
- revenue diversification (does the project increase the sources of revenue or proportion of the source)
- projected revenue growth
- projected audience growth or diversification
- improvements in business practices (efficiencies gained, costs reduced, improved business models, such as through the adoption of technologies)
- jobs created or maintained; and/or
- benefits to the performing arts sector (sharing of best practices, expertise, and tools) outside of the applicant
Refer to the applicant guide for more information on project indicators and expected results. Applicants will be required to quantify and substantiate their expected results, and if approved, report on these results before and after the project completion.
