Canadian Seafood Stabilization Fund (CSSF) in the Prairie provinces
Applications for the Canadian Seafood Stabilization Fund are no longer being accepted.
The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging for many sectors in Canada. Fish and seafood processors are key to our economy and national food security. The CSSF provides $62.5 million to support fish and seafood processors. Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) and Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan) provided more than $9 million in funding through the CSSF to support fish and seafood processors across Western Canada.
Applications now closed for Prairie provinces fish and seafood processors
Eligible fish and seafood processors could apply for help with COVID-19 related costs incurred after March 15, 2020.
PrairiesCan is delivering the program in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Who could apply to the CSSF
- fish and seafood processing businesses in the Prairie provinces
- not-for-profit organizations that support the sector
Applicants must:
- be a business or organization in the Prairie provinces
- be a federally or provincially licensed fish processing facility or a registered processor of wild capture or aquaculture products, including freshwater species
- be a viable business before the COVID-19 pandemic
- have adequate health and safety measures in place to protect employees

Types of projects that may be funded through CSSF
All eligible costs are retroactive to and including the date of March 15, 2020, and must be completed by March 31, 2021.
The CSSF supports the following types of activities:
Worker health and safety – Address health & safety requirements through:
- targeted equipment or products such as safety barriers, handwashing stations and personal protective equipment
- training and professional services to address health security measures related to COVID-19
Plant operations – Invest in new equipment, materials or services to:
- adapt plant operations, products or packaging
- increase efficiency and productivity
Market responsiveness – Meet new market demands by:
- responding to new consumer needs
- finding new markets
- delivering to new markets
Increase storage capacity – Find storage solutions for live, frozen and/or processed products. Storage may be:
- temporary or permanent
- domestic or international
