1. Program design
- Is aligned with regional needs and the Government of Canada’s objectives, with input from stakeholders. Final design parameters are subject to Ministerial, Cabinet, and Treasury Board approval.
2. Implementation (project lifecycle)
- 7 phases to secure funding:
- Outreach to potential applicants
- Intake of applications through the PrairiesCan web portal
- Assessment and due diligence of proposals to inform funding recommendations
- Internal review and approval of funding recommendations by President and Minister
- If approved, legally binding agreement established between PrairiesCan and the recipient
- Administration and monitoring of funded projects, and collecting repayable contributions
- Final analysis and closure
3. Program evaluation
- After completion, programs are reviewed for effectiveness, with lessons used to improve future initiatives.
