- PrairiesCan provides project-based funds that align with its mandate and its program terms and conditions.
- Typical project activities supported under permanent programs include:
- Supporting businesses to grow, export more, and expand to new markets
- Improving SMEs’ productivity by adopting new technology
- Supporting business incubation and acceleration
- Supporting collaboration between SMEs and post-secondary institutions to commercialize new technology and build new products
- Supporting community economic growth and diversification
- Supporting communities facing economic shocks, challenging economic circumstances and/or depressed economic conditions
- Assisting diverse groups, such as women, youth, and Indigenous peoples, to participate in the economy
- The department does not fund activities like routine operational expenses, basic research, land acquisition and pay for retirement of existing debt.
