Kevin Erratt

Kevin is an aquatic scientist whose research focuses on the intersection of water quality and human health. Over the past decade, Kevin worked with communities across Canada and East Africa to address concerns surrounding water quality, with a focus on harmful algal blooms.

Kevin examines how global change stressors influence the structure and function of algal communities that can potentially become harmful organisms. He deciphers historical trends using paleolimnology, conducts field surveys to identify present-day risks, and undertakes field and laboratory-based experiments to forecast future algal bloom risks. He integrates these methodologies to help formulate mitigation strategies to safeguard water security and empower communities to adapt in an era of rapid environmental change.
