We make every reasonable effort to respond accurately, completely and in a timely manner.

Any Canadian citizen, permanent resident or any person or corporation residing in Canada has the right to request access to records of government institutions that are subject to the Access to Information Act.

Any Canadian citizen, permanent resident or individual present in Canada has the right to access their personal information or request correction of the content of their personal information held by government institutions that are subject to the Privacy Act.

Step 1. Check if the information is already public

Before submitting a request under the Access to Information Act, check if the information you seek has already been released by the Government of Canada on the Completed Access to Information Requests site or through the Proactive Disclosure portal.

Step 2. Determine the right federal institution

Submit a request to Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan) only if it pertains to the programs and services of PacifiCan. All other requests must be submitted directly to the institution that holds the information.

Step 3. Plan your request

Your request should be as specific as possible. It should include enough detail for an experienced employee, with a reasonable effort, to identify the records you are requesting. Examples of detail include, but are not limited to:

  • file names
  • report titles
  • time periods
  • client identifiers
  • names of individuals
  • program or project names
  • locations (office or region/branch)

If you request personal information about someone other than yourself, that person must provide verifiable, written authorization that you are acting as their representative.
