Minister Fantino and Members of Parliament Stephen Woodworth, Peter Braid, and Harold Albrecht Announce $1 Million Investment to Improve Infrastructure at the Kitchener Armoury

KITCHENER, ONTARIO - The Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, along with Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, Harold Albrecht, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Conestoga and Stephen Woodworth, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Centre, today announced a significant $ 1 million investment for the Kitchener Armoury, to revitalize critical infrastructure in support of the Canadian Armed Forces and to help create local jobs in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

Home to the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada, the Armoury will see upgrades such as improvements to emergency lighting, roofing repairs, and the replacement of heating and ventilation systems, to ensure that the men and women of this regiment can continue to train, learn, and support their community in infrastructure that fully supports their needs.

The federal infrastructure investments, announced by Prime Minister Harper in November 2014, will build and renew infrastructure across the country, creating jobs and economic prosperity for local communities.
The Department of National Defence has received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities.
Over the next two years, $135 million will be invested in projects involving repairs to roofs, siding, plumbing, and heating and ventilation system at Armouries across Canada. By completing this work, the Department of National Defence will ultimately improve the efficiency and reduce maintenance costs at these facilities.
The Government estimates that accelerated investments will also support the creation of over 10,000 jobs in the Kitchener-Waterloo region and other communities across Canada, by the end of 2016.
